ジョンレノンが精いっぱいの皮肉をこめて この‟Happy Xmas, War Is Over” を出したのは1971年、日本は経済大国への途上でした。あれから2007年までにはプロレタリア（貧困層）は死語となっていましたが、今は見事に復活しています。
今年は、米をはじめ、世界中に貧困が拡大しています。それから戦争とテロ。
しかし、貧困層の見方の筈だったマルクス主義は消失、社会福祉をするには金がない。つまり貧乏人の味方は誰もいない。
この先、いかにして、公平で豊かな社会を維持していくのか、これが米国の大きなチャレンジになっています。
ところで米国西部の ホリデーシーズンに欠かせないのはタマリ。拙者の家族の大好物でもあり、いつもメキシコ系の親戚にお世話になっています。
